Cheatham Park is unique in a couple of
ways - one in its name. The Cheatham family were a group of Texas
Rangers who fought and survived the early years in Texas and helped to
make Texas what it is today. The name was submitted by one of their
granddaughters, Caelyn Bradley, a Stone Canyon resident. The name was
chosen as a way for us to honor all the men and women of the Texas
Rangers. This park was funded by a grant from Texas Parks & Wildlife,
land donation by Stone Canyon developer, Blake Magee, and Fern Bluff
MUD. This park has four cul-de-sacs with trail entrances to the park.
There is a children’s exercise station at the Mountain Mist entrance.
This park also has a playscape, picnic tables and benches. The other
unique feature of this park is the “bat” cave which is surrounded by
wrought iron fencing and an interesting limestone shelf, which is a
unique example of parallel surface fracture formations.
